OMFED’s Mega Dairy Plant Comes Up In Cuttack

The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) has opened its modern mega dairy plant in Arilo-Govindpur in the Cuttack district. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the plant on Wednesday.

It is set up at a total estimated cost of Rs 263 crore. With the capacity to process five lakh litres of milk per day, it is equipped with advanced facilities enabling the plant to produce various milk products such as milk powder, cheese, paneer, and butter. The factory is designed keeping in mind the presence of a large number of visitors, including school and college students, who can learn by visiting the modern dairy plant.

“OMFED belongs to our farmers and is the contribution of over three lakh people of the community. It was established to protect the farmers’ interests. The plant will help millions of milk producers and enhance their income capacity”, said CM Patnaik.

The event was followed by a public meeting, which was attended by the Chief Minister as well as Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra and Minister Arun Sahoo.

For the milk processing plant to be functional, the State Government has provided 51 acres of land to OMFED, which includes 18.7 acres at Arilo and 32.3 acres at Govindpur. This plant could significantly increase the income of the dairy farmers in the state.
