Hindalco, Jindal Win Bids For Coal Mines In Odisha

Outbidding multiple contenders for the coal mines for commercial use auction in Odisha, Jindal Steel and Power bagged the Utkal-C coal mine, while Hindalco Industries bagged the Meenakshi mine.

A statement from the coal ministry reported that BS Ispat Ltd emerged as the highest bidder for Majra mine in Maharashtra, and Assam Mineral Development Corporation bagged Garampani coal block in Assam.

The government has tendered ten mines for auction in the third round of commercial coal mining.

“On the 2nd and 3rd day of the e-auction (February 9-10), cumulative five coal mines were put up for auction”, read the statement. These five mines are fully explored and have a total reported geological reserve of around 528.051 million tonnes.

The cumulative peak rated capacity (PRC) for these coal mines is 16.07 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Five blocks were sold on the first day itself.

Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd had emerged as the highest bidder for two coal blocks.

Notably, Mahanadi Mines and Minerals emerged as the highest bidder for a coal block in Odisha, along with Yazdani Steel And Power, who was the highest bidder for another coal mine in the eastern state, reported the coal ministry through a statement on Tuesday.
