Zero Night Celebrations restricted in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Zero Night celebrations in the cities of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri this year. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Puri district administration have come up with guidelines that restrain large gatherings during Zero Night parties.

Events or congregations including Zero Night celebration at hotels, clubs, convention halls, Kalyan Mandaps have been strictly prohibited in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri. The restrictions imposed by the district administration have shattered the hopes of hoteliers in Puri who usually generate great business on New Year’s eve.

The residents of the three cities have been advised to observe New Year with their friends/family and relatives at private houses/establishments with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols and other guidelines published by the Centre and State government. Further, the Commissionerate Police will designate police officers to maintain law and order in these cities.

The district officials will take strict measures to check drunken driving and other anti-social activities during the Zero night celebrations. Umashankar Dash, Bhubaneswar DCP, said, “As there will be no Zero Night celebrations, 20 platoons of the police force will be deployed in the city on December 31.”

Dash further notified that surprise raids would be conducted on hotels and other places to ensure that the state government’s guidelines and restrictions to prevent COVID-19 spread are duly followed. “Patrolling will be intensified and blocking will be done in different prominent junctions in the city,” he added.
