Time To Upgrade Railway Stations In Odisha Study

Ministry of Railways has undertaken techno-economic feasibility studies of railway stations in Odisha for their redevelopment. Based on the results, the development will start in various phases. Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal said at the Rajya Sabha replying to MP Amar Patnaik from the BJD, when asked about the development of stations in Odisha.

The feasibility study is conducted by various agencies, with the projects starting based on the results. “The cost of the station redevelopment project is to be met by leveraging commercial development of land and air space in and around the station”, added Goyal.

This project is open to all types of opportunities including public-private partnerships, modified bid challenge method, joint venture with the state government or other public sector undertakings. If possible, a combination of all these models can also be implemented.

The Bhubaneswar railway station is also being redeveloped with the help of the Government of Odisha. This is being carried out after a memorandum of understanding was signed between East Coast Railway and the state government on September 19 for the development of the railway station in the state capital.
