Puri’s Mega Makeover Plan On Track
The Odisha Government, as part of its bid to create a security zone around the Jagannath Temple, has acquired 75 percent private land within a 75-meter radius in just 40 days.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tagged the acquisition process as an “unprecedented success” in the country. The State Government is in the process of demolishing all structures within a 75-meter radius of the historic Jagannath Temple to rebuild Puri into a world heritage city.
The Chief Minister showered his praise on all those who sacrificed their properties which includes commercial establishments, hotels, and lodges for the greater cause of preserving the temple.
“On the auspicious day of Janmashtami, I had earnestly requested you to sacrifice the land for the safety of the temple of Lord Jagannath who holds a unique place among the people of Odisha and their culture. I am extremely happy that you have kept my request. The entire Odia community will remember your selfless sacrifice for all times to come,” said Patnaik.
The CM also appreciated the sincere efforts of the district administration and the police, who have been performing their duties even on Sundays. Patnaik is confident that the sacrifice made by the people will further strengthen the State Government’s determination to make Puri a world heritage city.
