Opposition Parties To Organize State-Wide Protest On June 26

Odisha’s opposition political party leaders have planned to stage a protest starting from Master Canteen, Bhubaneswar at around 11 AM on June 26. A memorandum will be submitted to the Governor by the congregation of the protesting parties. The principal aim of the protest is to demand proper implementation of protocol as the opposition believes that the state government’s failure in the management of COVID-19 has led to a chaotic situation in Odisha. Thirteen parties under the leadership of Congress have announced a state-wide protest tomorrow.

At a meeting held this morning, the parties collectively decided to resort to a protest. The meeting concluded that the number of coronavirus cases has multiplied due to mismanagement and the absence of a progressive vision from both the union and the state government.

“Earlier in April, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that 15,000 samples will be tested every day, the number of tests being done does not even cross 4000 per day,” claimed a Congress protestor. He also accused the state government of not testing all the migrant returnees before sending them back to their homes.

According to reports, 210 new coronavirus cases have been detected in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 5,962, out of which 4,123 have recovered.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) headed by Niranjan Patnaik has also decided to conduct a nationwide protest on June 29 against the fuel price hike. Notably, in the last 19 days, diesel prices have gone up by ₹10.63 per litre and petrol prices by to ₹8.66 a litre.
