Odisha Prepared for COVID19 Vaccination: Asit Tripathy

In an official statement, the Odisha government has declared that it is fully prepared for the COVID19 vaccination with a prioritised list. Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, at a state preparedness review meeting, said, “Odisha stands prepared for COVID vaccination with a prioritised list and well-designed multi-sectoral response system at different levels.” Tripathy further stated that the circulation of the vaccines would be done in a bottom’s up approach. He declared, “Community leaders and Panchayati raj institution (PRI) people’s representatives would be involved at the grass-root level to roll out the COVID vaccination as a people’s campaign.”

Pradipta Mohapatra, the Additional Chief Secretary (Health), who was also present in the meeting said, “The State Steering Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, and the State task Force Committee constituted under Additional Chief Secretary Health & Family Welfare have already met to finalise the strategies of immunisation. The meetings of District Task Force Committees have already been conducted under the Chairmanship of respective Collectors. Moreover, the block- level task force committees have been constituted under the chairmanship of the BDOs.” Almost 8,300 vaccinators have been enlisted, and 30,000 sites have been identified for governing the vaccination process in Odisha.

Shalini Pandit, the Special Secretary and Mission Director of the National Health had earlier stated, “The database of the first priority group composed of health care workers (from both the Government and private health facilities) and front line workers under integrated child development scheme have been prepared and uploaded in the national Co-Win web portal. Names of nearly 3.2 lakh such health and frontline workers are in the list”.

As the vaccine has to be stored in cold storage, state government officials have completed assessment for cold chain demand, safe storage and transportation of vaccines. Space for the inventory of walk-in-coolers, walk-in-freezers, ice-lined refrigerators, deep freezers has been booked. In the first phase of vaccination, 3,17,692 healthcare workers associated with 3,989 health facilities from all over the country, will be vaccinated.
