Odisha Government Aims To Increase Research Output

The State Higher Education Department has decided to seek suggestions which will be used in the focus area of research in State-run universities. Suggestions from all departments will be taken via written communication.

India has only 242 research scholars for every million students whereas China has 1,200, and the USA and France have 4,000 for the same number of students. This shortage of scholars has been the cause of concern for both the State and Central government.

To improve in this aspect, the reservation of Ph.D. seats for State Research Fellows with NET has been directed by the Higher Education Department to the universities. Additionally, universities have been instructed to use Odisha University Research and Innovation Incentivisation Plan (OURIIP) to the highest extent and drive more faculties to engage in research work. Meanwhile, the universities and other departments are ought to find a solution to meet the shortages of guides.

To get seed funds for a research project under OURIIP, the department is planning to raise the age limit of faculties from 40 to 45 years. In the case of the State Research Fellows, the Higher education department intends to increase the age limit from the existing 30 to 35 years.

The move is focused on enhancing the usefulness and outcome of the Odisha University Research and Innovation Incentivisation Plan.
