Odisha Cops receive Tips on Cybercrime from Interpol Officer
On the occasion of the 62nd senior police officer’s conference, M M Oberoi, Interpol’s executive director, briefed Odisha’s cops regarding cybercrime. He spoke to the senior police officers of the state on various issues, including cybercrime. This year the conference was held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“M M Oberoi, executor director (technology & innovation), Interpol, delivered a presentation on combating cybercrime. His presentation was full of insight and wisdom”, tweeted the state’s DGP.
Talking about the global acceleration of cyber-crimes, Oberoi emphasised the importance of actionable intelligence, forensics, capacity building, and training.
Among other eminent speakers was Professor A Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur, who gave a talk on ‘technology in aid of policing’ and suggested the officers adopt the latest technologies to meet public safety challenges posed by terrorism, left-wing extremism, and mass gatherings.
A senior officer of the ministry of home affairs discussed methods to effectively handle social media, and the challenges that come with it. “Online radicalisation, fake news, and rumour generation by influencers and anonymous individuals and groups continue to pose challenges and impact internal security. Strategies for countering such campaigns were discussed threadbare”, said the officer.
