No Proposals From Odisha For Swadesh Darshan Scheme

Although the Odisha Government has been focusing on the promotion of eco-tourism destinations across the State, it is yet to submit any proposal for development of eco-circuits under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. The scheme, which was launched in 2014-15 for integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits, is set to expire in March.

Under the scheme, unique hotspots such as beaches, heritage, culture and wildlife that are specific to the area were to be developed as special circuits with the motive to attract tourists.

Replying to an unstarred question by MP Sarojini Hembram in Rajya Sabha, Union Minister for Tourism (independent charge) Prahlad Singh Patel said no proposal has been submitted by Odisha for any eco-tourism project under the scheme.

“The Ministry of Tourism has identified Eco Circuit as one of the 15 thematic circuits under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. But, no proposal has so far been received from Odisha Government for development of eco-tourism in the State,” said Prahlad Patel in his reply to MP Sarojini Hembram’s question at the Rajya Sabha.

However, he did confirm that the Ministry has sanctioned Rs 70.82 crore out of which 37.61 crore has already been released for the development of ‘Coastal Circuit’ comprising of Gopalpur, Barkul, Satapada and Tampara.
