NDRF Imparts Disaster Management Training To Odisha’s Youth

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has started training volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) of Khurda district, in an attempt to help them effectively prepare to be the first responders, and a helping hand to government agencies, in case of disasters or emergencies. The training session was conducted by the NDRF’s third battalion, which is stationed at Mundali in Cuttack.

NDRF officers and support personnel trained the youths about basic rescue techniques which can be deployed in case of natural calamities like flooding, cyclones, fire-related accidents, and the like. The volunteers were also trained about the proper use of medical first aid in times of such crisis.

Jacob Kispotta, senior commandant of the third battalion of the NDRF at Mundali, said that a memorandum had been signed between the NDRF and the Department of Youth under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to train NYKS volunteers from all across the country. As many as 12 NDRF battalions will engage in the process to train youths across the country. He added that a total of ten batches would be trained in Odisha before January 2020.
