Hand Stamps To Help Monitor Returnees

The Odisha Government has decided to stamp every individual returning to the state with indelible ink and ensure that all such persons are put under quarantine. The state government will also request the Centre to ensure all migrant workers stranded outside the state are tested for COVID-19 before they return to Odisha.

“Tomorrow, I will have a video conference with Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on this matter. I have already proposed this to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Screening and testing of migrant workers before their return will help State Governments in taking follow-up action,” said Health Minister Naba Kumar Das.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena added that the Panchayati Raj department will designate a nodal officer for each gram panchayat who will oversee the registration of returnees. The state will also develop a web portal for quick registration of returnees at both rural and urban levels. The website will contain information regarding nodal officers for applicants to contact and complete their registration process.

“In urban areas where persons are allowed home quarantine, a sticker will be affixed in their house. Such persons will be closely monitored to ensure that they follow the quarantine guidelines in letter and spirit,” said Jena.
