DGP BK Sharma Inspects Security Along Odisha Coast

DGP BK Sharma, in an aim to strengthen security along the Odisha coast, has directed SPs of seven districts to inspect Marine police stations. Each police station is assigned to invigilate their respective jurisdictions and submit their reports to the State Police Headquarters regularly.

BK Sharma personally reviewed the performance of 18 Marine police stations, located in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Berhampur through video-conferencing at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack. Sharma also took stock of the functioning of police stations in the areas nearby the coastal region from the SPs.

The Range IGs/DIGs and SPs were directed by the DGP to visit the Marine police stations once a month to ensure their proper functioning. The SPs were advised to assure adequate manpower in these police stations, particularly in the ranks of constable and home guard. Meanwhile, IICs have been instructed to carry extensive sea patrolling in their respective jurisdictions through effective utilisation of staff.

The police station survey meeting was held at a crucial time because the cabinet secretary is soon to review ‘National Committee on Strengthening Maritime and Coastal Security Threat from the Sea’ through videoconferencing.
