Applying For Driving License Made Easier In Odisha

The state government has decided that no jurisdiction will be applied while applying for a learner’s license (LL), permanent driving license (DL), and registration of vehicles. People can apply through any Regional Transport Office (RTO) for these.

“We have issued the circular to all RTOs about the provision under the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. The erstwhile RTO region-wise restriction has been removed as per the amended MV Act,” said Sanjeeb Panda, State transport commissioner.

People need not go to their respective jurisdiction wise RTO for LL or DL, they can provide their residence proof anywhere in Odisha to apply for a license at any RTO.

The transport department has shared another baffling fact of issuance of 3.51 Lakh Learner’s license in the past two months (September and October), since the Motor Vehicle Act was amended with huge penalties imposed on September 1. This is a huge increase in numbers considering a total of 3.48Lakh learner’s license was issued in the entire last year.

“As per the instruction of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, we put in place more infrastructure and opened additional camps to facilitate the issuance of the transport-related documents to people,” a transport official said.
