The Paradip Port in Odisha is all set to increase cargo handling during the current fiscal year – to 110 million metric tonnes (MMT), up from 102 MMT traffic handled last year.
“The port is expected to reach 110 MMT mark in terms of cargo handling this fiscal, exhibiting a compounded annual growth rate of 11.56%,”
Chairman of Paradip Port Trust (PPT), Rinkesh Roy said.
He also added that the port’s capacity has been rated at 277 MMTPA, making it the largest in the country, while the effective capacity has been increased to 234 MMTPA.
Paradip Port Trust joined the exclusive club of 100 million tonne ports last year by handling a record 102 MMT traffic. This was the third highest throughput achieved in India.
The Mechanised Coal Handling Plant (MCHP) is said to have shown an improvement in efficiency by 65 per cent. The iron ore handling plant has also shown a huge improvement of 141 per cent in efficiency with net loading rate standing at 1,000 TPH, compared to 414 TPH in 2014-15.
On Republic Day, Paradip port for the first time witnessed the docking of luxury cruise liner ‘MV Silver Discoverer’ with foreign tourists on board. This is set to provide a huge boost to tourism in the state.
