Odisha government plans to unveil a new industrial policy with a thrust on the generation of new employment opportunities, as revealed during the first session of the 16th Odisha Legislative Assembly. The state government is committed to overcoming regional differences by accelerating the speed of development.
The session commenced from June 25 as Odisha’s Governor Ganeshi Lal addressed the state legislative assembly stating, “Best-in-class industrial parks will be established for each of the focus sectors. Industrial corridors will be created for setting up small and medium enterprises across the state. For extension of credit at concessional rates to the eligible MSMEs, a suitable interest subvention scheme shall be introduced by my government.”
The government has shown an interest in harvesting gains from the two editions of its showpiece conclaves – Make in Odisha staged in the years 2016 and 2018. The Make in Odisha initiative aims at strengthening investments and enhance the employability of the youth.
Ganeshi Lal, in the state assembly, emphasized that the government will actively pursue the following:
• Creation of three million jobs in six focus sectors
• 75% of jobs to be reserved for qualified local youth
• World Skill Centre to produce 150,000 high skilled professionals who will have global employable potential
• ‘Skilled in Odisha’ to become a global brand
• 1.5 million youth to be skilled in the next five years
The state government had last amended its industrial policy statement in 2015, introducing a suite of reforms and incentives to draw fresh investments and boost job creation.
