Gopalpur Port Gets Two More Berths

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated two more berths adding to the existing two berths at Gopalpur Port in Ganjam district on 28th February 2019. Other official dignitaries like Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu, MLAs Pradeep Panigrahi and Priyanshu Pradhan were also present on the occasion.

The upgrade will allow cargo handling capacity of 20 million MTPA, which is backed by funding of Rs 2,000 crores. This will heavily boost the maritime trade and commerce along with creating employment opportunities for over 6500 youth. The Gopalpur port is located between the Paradip and Visakhapatnam Ports, giving it the strategic advantage in case of imports, as well as coastal transport along the eastern coast of India. The investment will contribute significantly towards the economic development of Odisha, particularly that of the Ganjam District.

“Development of this port will provide significant economic benefits to Ganjam district and create direct and indirect employment for over 6,500 people. Gopalpur port will play a crucial role in economic development of Odisha, especially the southern districts of the State”

said Naveen Patnaik

Patnaik also laid the foundation stone for the Harabhangi irrigation project to be constructed at a cost of ₹172 crore, apart from laying the foundation stone for 24 piped water supply projects in four blocks of the district.
