Odisha High Court Judges Given Demonstration Of EVM

Election Commission of India (ECI) demonstrated and conducted mock polls on a mock operated EVM-VVPAT in Odisha High Court premises on 19th February. A brief presentation was delivered by Surendra Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on the EVM- VVPAT. The drill was held before Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and several other judges of the High Court.

It was also stated that VVPAT would be used for the first time in the upcoming elections in Odisha simultaneously with the general assembly elections. Voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) or verifiable paper record (VPR) is a practice of giving feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system.

The Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and all the other judges participated in the mock poll demonstration. Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha informed the judges about the Voter Helpline application generated by the ECI whereby any voter can verify their names in the electoral roll. The application is accessible for free download on Google play store.

The judges were also intimated that application for inclusion or correction can currently be made, during the period of continuous updating of electoral polls.
