The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD), has listed four educational institutions of Odisha in the top 100 list.

- IIT Bhubaneswar (46)
- KIIT Deemed University (50)
In the management institutes category, KIIT was ranked 30 and XIMB was placed at 36. Furthermore, SOA University and KIMS were placed at 19 and 20 respectively amidst the medical college ranking. NIT Rourkela and IIT Bhubaneswar were ranked amongst the top 20 engineering colleges. Unfortunately, OUAT and Utkal University failed to make it to the list.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has been selected as the Best University in India while Delhi’s Miranda House was awarded as the Best College. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) were ranked second and third best universities respectively, as per the ranking by the NIRF.
The NIRF India Ranking is built on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, outreach and inclusivity, graduation outcomes and perception.
