DGCA Releases Air Traffic Data For Biju Patnaik International Airport

As per the data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for January this year, New Delhi has been established as the most profitable route for airlines operating from the Biju Patnaik International Airport. The data shows that over 90,000 passengers flew between the two capital cities during the month.

Bengaluru came second with 79,415 passengers, largely due to the increased students’ movement. Kolkata was the third most popular destination with 72,364 passengers flying to and from West Bengal’s capital city.

Hyderabad and Mumbai rounded up the top 5 list with 50,000 and 39,896 passengers respectively. All these cities connect Bhubaneswar with direct flights, with the most number of daily flights operating to New Delhi.

Other popular destinations include Guwahati with 10,354 passengers, Kochi with 6447 passengers and Vishakapatnam with 3249 passengers. In total, the airport handled 3.76 lakh passengers, which is 11.7 percent higher than the corresponding month last year.

This growth proves that there is a steady increase in air travel in the state of Odisha, which will further go up with flight operations commencing soon at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda.
