Sero Survey to begin in Cuttack to check COVID-19 prevalence

The Odisha government has planned to conduct a sero survey in areas under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to detect the antibody prevalence rate against COVID-19. The survey will be a joint effort by the CMC and the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar.

A sero survey involves testing blood serum of individuals to monitor the trends in the presence of the novel Coronavirus or SARS-COV-2 infection at the district level. The samples will be collected from one member of each family. Pregnant women will be exempted from the test.

As per officials, the first phase survey will be carried out between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm between November 2 and November 5. Five teams and 14 sector officers have been deployed for the survey. Meanwhile, the ward officers and sanitary inspectors will be creating awareness among the residents for the survey.

The remaining wards will be tested in phase two of the survey. Till now, the Cuttack city has reported 14,642 COVID-19 positive cases, out of which 844 are active, and 13,732 patients have recovered from the disease.

In another recent sero survey conducted in the Malkangiri district, it was found that 50 percent of the population had developed antibodies against COVID-19.
