Odisha’s coronavirus infections rose to 5,752 with 282 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to an official from the Health Department.
Of the 282 new cases, 256 have been reported from quarantine centres where returnees have been kept under isolation. The remaining 26 cases are local contacts, the official said, adding that contact tracing is underway.
Eight NDRF personnel, all of whom were involved in cyclone Amphan rescue and restoration work in West Bengal, also tested positive for COVID-19. With this, about 276 personnel of disaster response teams of NDRF, ODRAF and Odisha Fire Service have now tested positive for the virus.
Around 76 cases were reported from Gajapati district followed by Ganjam with 75 cases and Khordha with 26 cases. As a result, the district administration of Ganjam has said that all government offices will remain shut for senior officers for a span of 10 days. This measure has been taken to curb the spread of the virus in Ganjam district where cases continue to rise.
Of the total 5,752 infected, 3,988 patients have recovered while 17 people have died.
On Tuesday, roughly 4,271 tests were conducted, taking the total tally of tests to 2,35,627, said the official.
