Odisha Reports Highest Single-day Spike in Covid-19 Cases

Covid-19 cases in Odisha continue to rise as it confirms 577 new infections in the last 24 hours. With this, the state surpasses the 11,000 mark and reports the highest single-day spike so far. The total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 11,201.

Of the 577 new cases, 416 have been reported from quarantine centres while the count for local transmission is at 161. Ganjam district continues to report the most cases with 260 in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, things are not looking good in Sundargarh as the steel city of Rourkela is slowly turning into a hotspot. The western district has reported 83 new cases.

As per reports, a super-spreader has infected 95 persons in Rourkela. A part of the Sector-16 area has been sealed as contact tracing continues.

As of today, the total tally of Covid-19 cases in Odisha is at 11,201, as confirmed by the Information and Public Relations Department via a tweet. Out of these, a total of 4128 are active cases while 7006 have recovered. The death count has now increased to 52 with four new fatalities reported in the past day.
