Odisha Reports Highest Single-Day Rise in COVID Cases
In the last 24 hours, Odisha has reported 561 COVID cases making it the highest single-day rise in infections. The total tally in the state now stands at 8106.
So far 29 patients have succumbed to the deadly virus, 17 of whom belong to Ganjam, five from Khurda, four from Cuttack, and one each from Puri, Bargarh, and Angul. Notably, more than half of the deceased patients were above 60 years old.
The official handle of Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Odisha, recently tweeted, “Another 203 COVID-19 patients have recovered and are being discharged on July 3rd: 38 from Ganjam; 37 from Khurdha; 19 from Gajapati; 18 from Cuttack; 18 from Jagatsinghpur; 12 from Sambalpur; 12 from Sundergarh; 10 from Dhenkanal; 8 from Jajpur; 7 from Baragarh; 6 from Mayurbhanj; 5 from Rayagada; 3 each from Balasore & Kandhamal 2 from Puri; 1 each from Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Malkangiri, Keonjhar & Nabarangpur. The total recovered cases of Odisha now stand at 5705.”
Health and Family Welfare department authorities said 77 cases were identified from three premier hospitals in the state – Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer, SCB Medical College and Hospital (Cuttack) and AIIMS (Bhubaneswar).
In the capital city of Bhubaneswar, 24 new coronavirus cases have been detected, taking the city’s tally to 369. To put a pause at the rising cases, Khurda has been put under weekend lockdown, since June. Apart from Khurda, several other districts have also been put under weekend shutdown till July 31.
In related news, Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) has declared part of the Sector-16 area as a containment zone after one COVID-19 positive case was reported. The officials have put restrictions on entry and exit into the area. The movement of vehicles has also been suspended for the next 48 hours.
