Odisha Corona Update: 34% Local Contact Cases in Last Week
As corona cases continue to rise across Odisha, here’s a quick update of all major developments that took place in the last week – from July 13 to July 19 – with regard to Covid-19.
- Covid-19 positive cases continue to surge in Odisha with over 1400 new infections reported over the last couple of days. The following graph provides a snapshot of the new cases reported day by day.
- Interestingly, about 1486 out of the 4373 new infections reported in the last week occurred through local contact. This is a concern and might be part of the reason why a complete lockdown was imposed in select districts.

- Ganjam continues to remain a Covid-19 hotspot with a steady increase in the number of cases, recording a sum total of 1619 new infections in the week gone by.
- In this period from July 13 to July 19, around 4373 new cases have been reported from across Odisha. Meanwhile, 3702 persons recovered from the virus in the last week.
- The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) Bhubaneswar successfully established stable cultures of coronavirus from the patient samples using Vero cells.
- Plasma therapy to treat Covid-19 patients began in the state on July 15. It has been yielding good success as 4 patients are already on the path to recovery.
- The total tally of Covid-19 positive cases surpassed the 1000 mark in the capital city of Bhubaneswar.
- A complete lockdown announced in Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur and Rourkela Municipal Corporation with effect from July 18, to go on until July 31.
