On May 6, Odisha reported its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 positive cases as 20 people tested positive for the virus, taking the total tally of infected persons to 205, as per official reports. Out of the 20 fresh cases, 17 have been reported from Ganjam district, while three were from Mayurbhanj district.
All of these 20 cases have been identified as returnees from Surat and are under compulsory quarantine, confirmed the Information and Public Relations department.
Meanwhile, the district of Mayurbhanj has now joined the list of COVID-19 affected regions. This news comes just a day after Jagatsinghpur had joined the list of affected districts having reported four positive cases.
As of today, 205 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the state, out of which 142 are active cases while 61 patients have recovered.
As anticipated earlier by the Chief Minister, returnees from other states have posed a major challenge for the state and the number of infected people is expected to further increase in the upcoming days.
So far, around 35,000 natives have returned to the state. On Wednesday alone, around 7,500 people returned to Odisha. As per the state government’s orders, all returnees need to go through compulsory quarantine for 14 days upon re-entry.
