COVID Positive Patient Attends Parties, Infects 17 Others
In a serious violation of guidelines, a 29-year-old woman under home quarantine hosted a birthday party and attended a marriage anniversary thus infecting 17 others in Brajrajnagar. The police are investigating the matter and have filed cases against two persons involved in the incident under Section 15 of the Disaster Management Act and Sections 296, 271, and 188 of IPC.
The 29-year-old woman, now tagged a super-spreader, returned to Jharsuguda from Gurgaon on June 9 along with her family. The family was advised to stay in isolation for 14 days as per standard protocol. However, the person organized a birthday party for her son on June 12.
Moreover, a day later, the lady attended a wedding anniversary celebration in her neighbourhood and in the process, ended up infecting 17 others in the area with coronavirus, said Collector Saroj Kumar Samal.
“Another person in the neighbourhood organised an anniversary celebration despite the area being a containment zone. Despite creating awareness among people about the importance of complete isolation during home quarantine besides containment zone guidelines, they are not taking the situation seriously”, said Samal.
Currently, a total of 5470 people in the state have tested positive for COVID-19, out of whom 3863 have recovered.
