Covid Cases Dip Marginally in Odisha; Low Fatality A Highlight

A day after the Covid recoveries outnumbered the daily cases, Odisha on Sunday registered a marginal drop in daily cases tally. The State reported 8520 new Covid cases from different districts in the past 24 hours.

Of the total 8520 cases, 2262 new cases are from Khordha district, followed by Sundargarh (932), Cuttack (789), Balasore (346), Kalahandi (226) and Nayagarh (216). The State Information & Public Relations Department informed that 937 of the total 8520 affected are in the age group of 0 to 18 years. The active caseload in the State now stands at 85,320.

It is for the third consecutive day that the State has shown a declining trend as far as the new Covid cases (below 10,000) are concerned. Experts, however, said that it is too early to predict if the State is entering a plateauing stage now.

On Saturday, Odisha had reported 8,845 new cases. On Friday, 9833 Covid cases were reported from different parts.

While the second wave, that rampaged through the state beginning April last year brought with it a number of deaths, the latest iteration of the pandemic has not had a lethal effect. Many scientists attributed the ‘Omicron’ variant as an ‘evolutionary mistake’, as the same is not potent enough to present short-term hazards and is easily detectable by the body’s defensive mechanisms.

As per government sources and medical data, it appears that in most major metropolitan cities and their suburban areas, the wave seems to have already peaked and is on the decline now.
