COVID-19 Positive Cases Cross 1000 Mark

The Health and Family Welfare Department has confirmed that the state has crossed the 1,000 mark in terms of COVID-19 infections as 74 more people tested positive on 20th May. Of the 74 new cases, 72 are in quarantine centres. The new cases were reported from Boudh (28), Puri (11), Cuttack (9), Khura (7), Ganjam (6), Jajpur (6), Kendrapara (2), Malkangiri (2) Balasore (1), Dhenkanal (1) and Kandhamal (1).

The total cumulative samples that have tested positive so far is at 1052. The official handle of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Odisha, tweeted, “The state has ramped up to 105914 nos. of COVID 19 tests out of which 1052 cases have been tested positive. For any health assistance, call 104 Health Helpline.”

The total number of samples tested in the state as of 20th May is 1,05,914.

Even as the absolute number of positive cases spike, the spread of the disease has been restricted to quarantine centres set up at the gram panchayat or state level, most of which are occupied by migrants that have returned to the state.

The state government is working hard to bring back five lakh people – mostly migrant workers and some overseas residents. Nearly two lakh Odias have already returned. All the returnees are being tested for COVID-19 and are bound to undergo quarantine for two weeks.
