Covid-19: Ganjam, Rayagada Fall Prey as Odisha Faces Uphill Task

A tough challenge lies ahead for Odisha in its battle to contain Covid-19 as Ganjam, Rayagada see a rise in infections. Ganjam has been one of the worst-hit by the pandemic and cases continue to surge in the district. It has reported over 1000 cases in the last three days. Meanwhile, a sharp increase in infections has been reported in Rayagada too with almost 200 cases in the last two days.

New Covid-19 Cases in Ganjam and Rayagada in the Last 7 Days

As per data released by the I & PR department, Odisha has seen the highest single-day spike with 1264 new Covid-19 cases. Out of these, 847 have been reported from quarantine centres while 417 are local contact cases. Meanwhile, around 440 patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

The district of Khordha continues to suffer too with more than 100 cases reported for two consecutive days. The state government is taking all necessary measures as a lockdown persists in these districts.

As of July 22, the total number of Covid-19 positive cases reported in Odisha is 21,099. Out of these, 13,749 have recovered from the virus while 7205 are active cases. Notably, more than 4,20,000 people have been tested across the state.
