BMC Mulls Removing Containment Zone Tag From Subhash Nagar
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now planning to remove the ‘containment zone’ tag from Subash Nagar in Dumduma after it was labelled last week when six COVID-positive cases were detected from the community. This comes amidst the backdrop of no fresh cases from the affected zone, a week into the complete shutdown that was imposed in the area.
“It has been a week since the area was declared a containment zone, but we have not found any more positive cases there. Many samples have been tested as part of surveillance. We will lift the containment tag following a review of the situation in Subash Nagar,” BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury said.
The BMC commissioner also mentioned that four of the six infected from Subhash Nagar last week had already recovered. Subhash Nagar was the first locality in Bhubaneswar to be deemed as a containment zone in nearly two months.
Prior to this, no area had been designated as a containment zone since April 22, when the BMC commissioner had removed containment zone tags from Suryanagar, Satyanagar, Bomikhal, and Sundarpada. However, unlike Subhash Nagar, these localities had been containment zones for over two weeks.
