Money Heist Season 5: What We Know & What to Expect

What began as the greatest heist in history has now turned into a war within four walls – one of Netflix’s most coveted shows, Money Heist, created originally for Spanish TV as La Casa De Papel, returns for another season. By the end of season 4, fans were expecting the creators to wrap up the second heist just like they did the first, but instead, left them on a cliffhanger, which opened up a whole new world of possibilities of what could come next. Following the trailer, fans are pumped and ready to embrace action and obviously, have Bella Ciao playing on repeat.

When does it drop?

The creators have decided to split the 5th season into two volumes, both of which will have different tones. Volume 1 is all set to be released on September 3, 2021, and Volume 2 will follow three months later, on December 3, 2021.

The gang is growing!

With a very heavy heart, fans bid farewell to Alba Flores in Season 4 who played Nairobi. On the flip side, Netflix has confirmed that new faces will be joining the resistance! Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado will soon join the gang (eep!) and we can’t hold our horses any longer.

Lisbon to say goodbye?

According to Express UK, Álvaro Morte said at the Chelsea Film Festival in 2020 that The Professor’s character is a lonely, weird guy and in terms of how the character will end his story, he said he’d like to see him go back to the solitary life of loneliness. This raised a few eyebrows and left fans speculating whether his love interest in the show, Lisbon aka Raquel, could die in the coming season.

So, what’s up with Alicia?

Urgh, even her name gets our blood boiling. The closing scene of Season 4 showed Alicia Sierra figuring out the Professor’s hideout location and holding him at gunpoint and we’re expecting to see a major standoff between the two. Wait, though, could Alicia actually be Tatiana? Fans have been hypothesising Alicia’s true identity, wondering if she could be Berlin’s wife, even though the role has been played by separate actors. Most fans probably didn’t notice a mind-blowing easter egg that crept in seconds after the credits rolled on Season 4 – Sierra’s unique rendition of Bella Ciao – a song sung only by members of the heist previously, unknown to anybody else. Will she join the gang? Will she switch sides? Will the red jumpsuit complement her belly and bangs? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet!

Well, we cannot wait to deep dive into yet another dynamite of a season packed with badassery, savagery and drama and root for our heroes of resistance. Until then… Bella Ciao!
