Five Easy Ways You Can Sneak ‘Me Time’ into Your Schedule

“You first, always” – this sentence looks fabulous on paper, but is incredibly hard to implement. Most of us are trying to stay afloat while tight deadlines, chores, long working hours and a million other tasks wash over us. Finding ‘me time’ amidst this mayhem can be difficult, but it is not impossible. There are two very important things that you need to keep in mind before you conclude that you’re just too busy to kickback or cannot afford to take a break. One, busyness doesn’t necessarily equal productivity. Two, what’s your motivation to make time for yourself?

An important thing to do before you cut yourself some slack is to ask yourself WHY you want to. What do you really want to do? Finding your why is monumental to changing your habits. You need to convince yourself that your why is an integral part of your day – just like everything else that demands your time and attention. Once you’ve done that, you’re halfway there. As for the other half, which is integrating ‘me time’ into your schedule, we’re here to help you. Here are five simple ways to sneak some ‘me time’ into your day, guilt-free!

Think Small to Go Big

Rome wasn’t built in a day – your dream schedule can’t be either. What you need to keep in mind, though, is that the process is a marathon, not a sprint. If your aim is to try to workout for an hour every day, start with a 20-minute walk and slowly work your way up. If you want to write a book, give yourself credit even when you only manage to write one paragraph each day. Create a tiny goal and watch it grow. Remember, having a smaller goal is better than not having one at all.

Find & Master a Hobby

Trying something you have always wanted to can be an exciting feat. Finding out you’re good at it can boost self-confidence and morale. Ask yourself what you’ve always wanted to learn and take an online course. Practice a little every day. This way, not only will you master a skill you’ve always dreamed of, but you will give yourself something to look forward to after a day of hustling. By the way, it’s never too late.

Learn More About Yourself

Writing a Journal

There’s no better way to spend ‘me time’ than getting to know yourself. When was the last time you asked yourself how you’re doing? What do you like to do? If you’re happy? The best way to introspect is to journal down your thoughts. Journaling is a beautiful way to take a walk down the aisles of your mind and pick up thoughts while you go. Spend time with yourself. Get to know yourself better. You’re wonderful, we know it, and you should too.

Sweat It Out

Blasting Imagine Dragons on our Google Home and doing some squats is our favorite way to spend time with ourselves because who doesn’t want to kill two birds with one stone? Working out makes you feel healthier and happier and is a great way for you to get to know your body better. It keeps you on your toes all day and helps you avoid the feeling of stagnancy that ensues from sitting at your desk for over 8 hours. Indulge in whatever kind of workout you like best but get your blood flowing – we promise it feels great.

Cut Down Screen Time

Screen Time

Have you ever wondered how much time you spend scrolling through your social apps? Yes, that’s right, A LOT. There are two reasons why lesser screen time equals more ‘me time’. One, you stop comparing your productivity to others and start setting your own goals. Two, you can actually put your plans to action when your eyes aren’t glued to your phone’s screen. If you do insist on looking at your screen – at least make sure you’re indulging in your guilty pleasures. We know you’re binge-watching Indian Matchmaking. Hey, we’re not judging. Whatever sails your ‘me time’ boat!
