Here’s a list of 5 of the best movies that have recently been added on Disney+ Hotstar.

Ready or Not

Ready or Not

Cast: Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien
Genre: Comedy, Horror, Mystery
IMDB Rating: 6.8/10

This movie narrates the story of Grace Le Domas, a newlywed bride, who is hunted by her husband’s evil family as part of a family ritual. Though there is not a lot of character development, the acting by the supporting cast is brilliant as they play really whacky family members with an awkward, yet genuine chemistry among them.

The violence becomes more and more comical with clever banter and bloodbaths galore. The tension in the film is gripping and well-paced, coupled with well-executed comedy. Plot-wise, the film may seem ordinary, but it certainly keeps the viewer intrigued throughout owing to its brilliant cinematic execution.

Bad Education

Bad Education

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Ray Romano, Allison Janney
Genre: Biography, Comedy
IMDB Rating: 7.1//10

Inspired by true events, Bad Education highlights a scandal in the suburbs of New York. The movie follows the story of Superintendent Frank Tassone (Hugh Jackman), a charming and highly ambitious school superintendent who lands himself in trouble for embezzling millions from the school administration. The film depicts Tassone and Pamela Gluckin (Allison Janney) unabashedly use school funds to pay for their lavish lifestyle.

The first 30 minutes of the movie will give an impression as if nothing is happening. But in the end, you will be rewarded for your patience as the story slowly unfolds into a huge scandal that occurred right in front of everyone. Hugh Jackman delivers one of his most memorable performances and his chemistry with Allison Janney is a can’t-miss combination.

Jojo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit

Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Roman Davis, Thomasin McKenzie
Genre: Comedy, Drama, War
IMDB Rating: 7.9/10

The movie revolves around the life of Johannes ‘Jojo’ Betzler, a ten-year-old boy, whose dream is to be part of Hitler Youth camp and eventually become Hitler’s personal guard. The film is essentially a Nazi-mocking satire that provides an overwhelming cinematic experience with a mix of conflicting emotions ranging from loss of innocence, fanaticism to family, friendship, and love.

The storyline is extremely bold as no one would have thought of making a film about a 10-year-old Nazi and his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler. The director, Taika Waititi (maker of Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) brings his signature style of humour by portraying Adolf Hitler as a goofy, idiotic imaginary friend of the ten-year-old boy. The film is full of compelling acting, with Davis commanding the screen like a seasoned pro in his maiden venture and he’s well supported by McKenzie, who plays a Jewish girl hiding in the attic.

Togo

Togo

Cast: Willem Dafoe, Julianne Nicholson
Genre: Adventure, Biography, Drama
IMDB Rating: 8/10

The movie tells an incredible true story of a champion dogsled trainer and his lead dog-Togo, who braves a stormy winter to bring back a serum that will save the lives of children in Nome, Alaska. It’s a beautiful story, depicting a strong bond between human and animal. The film goes back and forth in flashes, capturing Togo’s adventurous run to obtain the serum and the time when he was considered by Seppala (Willen Dafoe) as a troublesome, indisciplined pup.

In real life, the credit for bringing serum to Nome is given to ‘Balto’, a dog who even has a statue named after him at New York’s Central Park. However, due to inaccurate reporting, the honour was taken away from the real hero-Togo. Impressive special effects, great performance by Willem Dafoe, and the presence of cute dogs make the movie a crowd-pleasing hit.

Ford v Ferrari

Ford vs Ferrari

Cast: Matt Damon, Christian Bale
Genre: Action, Drama
IMDB Rating: 8.1/10

As the title suggests, the plot is built on the battle between two motorsport corporations. The movie is based on a true story in which two ambitious men, Carrol Shelby (American car designer) and Ken Miles (WW II veteran-turned-mouthly mechanic), take on the race cars of Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

Non-racing fans will also enjoy the movie as it isn’t as much about the sport as it is about the bond shared by the two main characters. The race scenes are not as thrilling as it was in Rush (2013). But as a viewer, you do feel the intensity of gear shift, creating ‘7000 rpm moments’. The movie is a tad bit too long but is still filled with exciting twists and turns.
