Odisha’s Youngest Candidate Cracks UPSC at the age of 22
Hailing from Odisha’s Balasore district, Simi Karan has secured an All India Rank of 31 in the UPSC Examinations – 2019. At 22, she becomes the youngest candidate from the state to clear the exam. In just four months of preparation, she was able to crack the exam in her first attempt.
She is being regarded as a prodigy due to a promising academic record. She had topped the Class XII CBSE examination from Chattisgarh in 2015 and scored 5th position at all India level. She further pursued Btech in electrical engineering from IIT-Mumbai. After completing her engineering degree in May 2019, she began preparations for the Civil Services Examinations in June, with very little time in hand.

A native of Santoshpur village under the Basta block of Balasore, Simi’s father, Debendranath Karan, works as a manager at Bhilai Steel Plant. Meanwhile, her mother Sujata is a teacher at DPS Durg. Her parents are overwhelmed by her achievement. Simi said that she is ready to take up any responsibility she is assigned with.
Meanwhile, two IAS aspirants from Odisha – Abhishek Saraf and Sanjita Mohapatra also cracked the Civil Services Examination 2019 and are among the top 10 rank holders nationally. Abhishek Saraf secured the 8th position, while Sanjita secured the 10th rank.
