CHSE Cancels Class 12 Exam

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has cancelled all pending class 12 exam in Odisha. Samir Ranjan Das, State School & Mass Education Minister, conveyed the same to the media today. This comes soon after the ‘Unlock 2’ guidelines were issued by the Centre, imposing certain restrictions on the reopening of educational institutions.

In a previous notification, the officials had hinted about the possibility of conducting the class 12 examinations post the lockdown. However, the CHSE officials have now cancelled the remaining papers.

As an alternative method of evaluation, CHSE has come up with an assessment scheme similar to that of CBSE. According to the new evaluation method, the best three scores will apply for candidates who have appeared for four papers. Meanwhile, the best two scores will apply for candidates who have appeared three exams.

Bijay Kumar Sahu, Controller of Examinations, CHSE, has shared data on the number of students that have taken the exam. A total of 2,18,800 students have appeared in Arts, whereas 98,536 have appeared in Science and 25,770 in Commerce.

Although the economy is gradually starting to open up, officials are in no hurry to reopen schools and colleges. While announcing the new guidelines, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy said, “schools, colleges, coaching centres, and other educational institutions in the state will remain shut for teaching purposes until August 31.”
