Registrations Open for 3rd National Chilika Bird Festival: Details

The hugely popular National Chilika Bird Festival is back for its 3rd edition courtesy of Odisha Tourism. Registrations are now open for the fest that will take place from 8th to 10th January 2021. Guests will be allowed to choose between three different itineraries of either one-night or two-night stay.

The festival will kick off at Mangalajodi, in Chilika, which is referred to as the ‘Bird Paradise of Asia’. The area attracts lakhs of exotic birds from all over the world every year. The winged visitors from the arctic and subarctic regions often make a stop for a brief period at Mangalajodi before they migrate further east.

According to Odisha Tourism, tourists are likely to spot a variety of bird species including Ruffs, Godwits, Terns, Plovers, Sandpipers, rare Grey-headed Lapwings, Gulls, Pintails, Ruddy Shelducks, Baillon’s Crakes, Slaty-breasted Rails among many more.

Guests will also get to visit the Nalabana Bird Sanctuary, a beautiful island in the heart of Chilika during the festival. The sanctuary is one of the largest breeding grounds for Greater Flamingos. Notably, the bird sanctuary is a protected area and is only open for visitors during the fest.

Tour packages for the festival begin at Rs 6000 per adult for one night. Guests who opt for two nights will have to pay Rs 10,000 and will have an option of staying at either Satkosia or Bhitarkanika on the second night.
