Rajdhani Express To Promote Odia Culture

The Rajdhani Express, which runs between New Delhi and Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar, will soon be seen flaunting the state’s rich heritage, art and culture. The East Coast Railway (ECoR), which is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the train, has signed an MoU with National Aluminium Company (NALCO) for the same.

The East Coast Railway has three sets of train rakes for the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani express. NALCO on its part will be sponsoring the premium quality vinyl design wraps that will drape the prestigious train. The designs will have a distinct display, and adorn the exteriors of the trains.

Ajay Behera, Principal Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) for the East Coast Railway, said that the designs will focus primarily on three themes- dance forms, archaeological monuments, and flora and fauna of the state.

Each of the three rakes of the Rajdhani consists of about 15 coaches. Official sources have said that about ₹3 crores has been earmarked for the revamp project. Reputed designers and agencies have been engaged for the exercise, which is expected to be completed before Diwali.

Thus, the commissioning period for the project has been set for one month. As these trains would portray the best of Odisha while travelling through other states, it would help attract people to come and visit Odisha – ultimately bringing a boost in tourism.
