Odisha Bus Fares See Fresh Hike
After an increase in fuel prices, the bus fares in Odisha has seen a fresh hike as per the automatic fare adjustment mechanism. This news comes from the secretary of the private bus owners association, Debendra Sahoo.
As per the Department of Commerce and Transport, the fares of ordinary and express buses will increase by two paise per km. Whereas, the deluxe and AC deluxe buses will increase their fare by four paise per km.
The deluxe category buses will now charge Rs 1.05 instead of Rs 1.01 per km. Meanwhile, passengers in AC deluxe buses will have to pay Rs 1.27 per Km as against Rs 1.23 per Km.
On June 16, the state saw a hike in ordinary bus fares from 67 paise per Km to 70 paise per km. Similarly, the express buses increased their fares from 70 paise per km to 73 paise per km. The deluxe and AC deluxe buses have also seen the tariff go up recently.
Amidst the ongoing pandemic, passenger traffic is witnessing a gradual decline. As a result, private bus owners are incurring huge losses. As a result, the number of buses plying on the roads is declining by the day.
