Dharmendra Pradhan Vouches For Bhubaneswar-Dubai Direct Flight

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has requested the civil aviation minister’s intervention to help launch a direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Dubai. Pradhan believes this move can bring massive relief to the 15000 Odias working in UAE who currently have to take an indirect route to reach their destinations.

“I am made to understand that there are more than 15,000 Odia people residing in different parts of the UAE, who are forced to take indirect flight. I also understand Odia society in UAE had a meeting with general manager Air India regarding the viability of a direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Dubai based on favourable traffic data between the two destinations,” Pradhan wrote in the letter.

This has been a long-standing demand of numerous parties including industrialists, students, hoteliers, tourists among others as it will be beneficiary for them. A direct route will also help increase trade activity and volume of cargo handling.

However, any development in this regard might see a delay as the Biju Patnaik International Airport is set to remain partially shut for 8 months starting November this year. This is due to the re-carpeting of the runway, a regular maintenance work, which is scheduled to begin in November.
